Press Release

MESA was chosen as a leader among science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs by the Silicon Valley Education Foundation.

The Foundation named MESA its 2013 STEM Innovation awardee in the math category.

Honorees are awarded in each of the four STEM categories for programs and practices that set a new benchmark for innovation in STEM.

MESA will be recognized at the Silicon Valley Education Foundation’s Pioneers & Purpose gala, Wednesday, November 6th at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.

MESA was chosen for the program’s use of innovative technology to excite students about learning and promote digital access; its potential for scalability; its use of project-based learning; and its reach across multiple STEM subject areas.

MESA is one of the largest academic preparation STEM programs in the country and supports over 28,000 educationally disadvantaged students so they can graduate from college with math-based degrees. Seventy percent of MESA high school graduates statewide went directly to college after graduation compared to 48 percent of all California graduates. Sixty percent of MESA students go on to math, science or engineering majors.

The Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) is a non-profit resource and advocate for students, educators, and corporate and individual donors.
