We all know all about Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The two deal-getting days are well known. But another day—part of a newer effort to spur holiday-season donations—is lesser known, yet potentially more impactful.

Since 2012, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has been recognized as Giving Tuesday. The day has gained popularity each year as a chance to donate to nonprofits and charities.

More importantly, it shines a light on the important work being done every day by such organizations, including MESA.

Each year MESA helps thousands of students from underrepresented, low income, and first generation college-going backgrounds prepare for and pursue STEM degrees. These students become the engineers, scientists, programmers and other math-based professionals urgently needed by industry.

MESA receives funding from the State of California and leverages that funding to garner additional resource support from public and private sources.

That support takes many forms including financial support (gifts, grants, in-kind donations), internships, employee volunteers, mentoring, and career preparation.

So as this season of giving and thanks continues, let Giving Tuesday be just the beginning of making a difference. Any day can be Giving Tuesday.
