Press Release

San Diego Gas and Electric Company (SDG&E) awarded $12,500 to the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) San Diego Alliance.

Students served by the alliance centers – San Diego City College, Southwestern College, Imperial Valley and the pre-college and undergraduate programs of San Diego State University – will benefit from the grant.

Some of the money will pay for a number of San Diego area students to attend the MESA Student Leadership Conference this fall. The conference offers extensive professional and leadership development through direct interaction with industry mentors and speakers. The hand-picked MESA students – all science, engineering, or math majors – come from universities and community colleges across the state.

Last year, SDG&E provided a $10,000 contribution and sponsored 12 local students to attend the conference.

The grant will also fund other activities within the San Diego MESA Alliance.

MESA is one of the largest programs in the state to support educationally disadvantaged students so they can graduate from college with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) degrees.
