Through a grant from the Marin Community Foundation, educationally disadvantaged middle and high school students in Marin County will be served by a new MESA field station beginning this fall.
The program will be housed at Dominican University and will serve schools in Sausalito/Marin City School District, San Rafael City Schools and Novato Unified School District. The Dominican center is headed by MESA director Meghan Peck.
An $80,000 grant from the foundation will fund MESA advisors at Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, Davidson Middle School, San Rafael High and Hill Middle School. Students will also be able to visit Dominican to expose them to a college campus. The advisors will provide curriculum and after-school enrichment. Dominican science students will serve as mentors for MESA students.
